How It All Began
Washington, DC - The year was 1887. The place was Baltimore, Maryland, and the confederate gentleman wearing the Confederate Medal of Honor is John "Jack" Trible, founder of Trible's Inc. Displayed in the window is the Trible washer; the two in front of the store are probably Brooklyn Washers. The Tribles are very possibly the oldest family in the washing machine business - four generations, each including a son named John, with every other generation nicknaming John "Jack" to eliminate confusion.
Grandfather "Jack" in the photo had two sons, Ned and John. Ned had a son, Sperry, for twenty-five years the manager of the Baltimore branch. John had a son Jack, who was the Chairman and CEO of Trible's Inc., Appliance Parts Distributors, until his untimely death in 1988. Jack had two sons: John who is President of the company, and Preston, who is Vice President.
The History of Trible's, Inc.
In February of 1936, John Trible opened Trible's Appliance & Service in the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington D.C. He opened a branch in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in 1938. A separate parts and service operation was located on Nichols Avenue, which is also in the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington D.C.
December 3, 1943, Trible's Parts and Service moved to 811 9th Street NW, Washington, D.C., and changed its name to Trible's Appliance Parts Distributors. July 1, 1946, Trible's Appliance Parts Distributors became Trible's Inc., "Appliance Parts Distributors". The company officers were:
John(Jack) Trible, President, Treasurer
John Trible, Vice President
Edward Page Trible, Secretary
In 1950, Trible's Inc. opened its first branch store on East Biddle Street, Baltimore, Maryland, with Sperry P. Trible as its manager. In 1954, Trible's Inc. moved to the Redskin Building at 9th and H Streets, N.W. Washington, D.C., (home of the Washington Redskins). Officers at that time were:
John(Jack) Trible, President, Treasurer
O.F. Matthews, Vice President, Secretary
Sperry Page Trible, Director
October 15, 1961, the Baltimore branch moved to N. Howard Street, Baltimore, Maryland. Our continued growth in the supplying of original parts for major appliance manufacturers along with increases in personnel caused us to move
again to a new and larger location at 2240 25th Place, NW Washington, D.C. The date was July 1, 1964.
On December 17, 1981 Trible's moves again! Once again due to growth and personnel increases, Trible's Inc. moved from Washington, D.C., to 901 Southern Avenue, Oxon Hill, Maryland. In 1988 Jack Trible died, leaving the operation of the company in the hands of his sons John and Preston.
On March 1, 1992, we moved our Annapolis branch to East Baltimore in the Essex area, vacating the Annapolis area
completely and adding a second branch to the Baltimore Metro area for the first time.
After several branch relocations in Northern Virginia and Maryland, our branches are now located in Springfield, Sterling, and Falls Church in northern Virginia, and Rockville and Beltsville in suburban Maryland.
In March 1995, we opened our first store in Ocean City, Maryland. The site had been considered an attractive location and has proven to be a good decision.
In December, 1996, Trible's Inc. opened its first store in Roanoke, Virginia. The following April saw the opening of our Virginia Beach, Virginia store. In 1997 Trible's agreed to purchase the inventory of the former Booth Refrigeration Supply
Company, thus paving the way to open our first branch in Richmond, Virginia on December 1, 1997.
On November 1, 1997 Trible's Inc. purchased the assets of our Waldorf, Maryland Associate store. Our original Associate Store is still going strong in Frederick, Maryland. Begun in 1978 by C. Rush Koontz with a character to sell retail in select localities, Trible's Associate Store in now operated by Rush Koontz's two sons - James and Steven.
Today, December 1, 1999, Trible's employs 102 people at our 12 branches, our warehouse, and our headquarters. We are now on of the largest major appliance parts distributors in the world, representing nearly all of the large appliance manufacturers as their authorized factory parts distributor.
We are still growing and increasing our lines of representation and our customer clientele.
In closing, the management and personnel at Trible's Inc. are ever aware that as distributors, "We Ship Parts, but We Sell Service to People".
